How Can Painful Ovarian Cysts be Treated?

Hello, my daughter is in her early 20 s and seems to be suffering from very painful ovarian cysts around the time of her cycle. Is there anything we should look into to help with the pain or is there something we can do to help relieve the pain? On occasion it gets so bad she has to go to the Dr and get shots of pain medicine. What can we do to help her.

Hello,

Pain with menstruation is not generally caused by cysts but mostly from 2 conditions, endometriosis or dysmenorrhea. Both these conditions can be treated with oral Ibuprofen during the pain or oral contraception pills.

If she has an ovarian cyst she needs to follow it up with ultrasound and if the cyst is bigger then 4 cm or is irregular or has septa or has content that doesn't seem like clear fluid, she will need to be referred to a gynecologist and have the cyst investigated to rule out important conditions like cancer.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
