How Can Painful Thigh Fracture Be Treated?

My granddaughter broke her femur 2 weeks ago. She still is in a lot of pain and still needs OxyContin every 12 hours and Oxycodone every 4-6. Is this normal? Is there any OTC pain reliever that we can start substituting that will help as she tries to wean off the narcotics?

Hi,

Sorry to hear of this accident. In fact, fractures are very painful and need narcotics, initially at least. However, after two weeks we can substitute others painkillers to wean off opioids. These include regular paracetamol and ibuprofen. The use of these drugs is sufficient after the initial few days. l so we can wean off opioids.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
