I am a 44 year-old woman I just had bariatric surgery 6 months ago I ve lost 97 pounds three weeks ago I was diagnosed with peronealneuropathy with foot drop in my right foot I ve always had lower back pain I ve had an MRI that showed a slight disc bulge on my right side and spinal stenosis on both of my lower back my question is my foot was numb from my top of my foot to the top of my knee that s gone away it s only my big toe that s still numb and I get a lot of pain from my butt cheek all the way down my right thigh and my right calf does this sound like a normal peronealneuropathy pain I ve had a nerve conduction test and an EMG I m just so worried I have ALS neither I ve seen too neurologist and neither one of them say I do but I just can t get it out of my mind would my foot still be numb if I had neuropathy
You had disc bulge as per MRI, which is also cause of foot drop. Your foot drop and numbness has decreased from below knee area to only great toe, that's a good sign that your body is responding to the treatment and recovering. You need to be careful: (1) As great toe is numb need to wear such footware which protects your great toe from injury and hot / cold (2) As you underwent bariatric surgery consult your GI surgeon to check whether you are getting enough of nutrition as they must have prescribed you nutritional supplements. As if you don't get enough of nutrition may lead to neuropathy. (3) You need to closely observe your disc bulge and see if it has reduced or increased, as that also leads to foot drop if in LS Spine area. Better consult a neurosurgeon once just to check if you need discectomy or any other surgical procedure for decompression.
