How Can Persistent Cough Be Treated?

I TOOK MY CHILD TO THE PULMONOLOGIST TODAY FOR PERSISTENT COUGH FOR OVER AMONTH, SHE WAS TREATED IN ER WITH PREDNISONE & BROMFED, THESE MEDICATIONS DID HELP A BIT BUT SHE CONTINUED WITH THE COUGH WHICH IS WHY HER PCP REFERRED HER TO THE SPECIALIST. THE PULMONOLOGIST PRESCRIBED THE ZPAK 250 BID FOR 5 DAYS, SHE INFORMED ME THAT IT IS ALSO ANTIFLAMMATORY AND THAT IT WILL BE THE SAME TREATMENT AS PREDNISONE WITHOUT THE STEROIDS AND WILL HELP WITH THE COUGH AND THE SINUS. I DO FEEL ICKY ABOUT THIS TREATMENT SINCE ZPAK IS VERY STRONG AND MY 11YO DAUGHTER ONLY WEIGHS 65LB.

Your concern is very right that Zithromax Z-Pak is strong antibiotics. However Azithromycin (zpak) is very effective and reasonably safe drug .it works very effectively for the chest infection. However Azithromycin a is safe drugs even if taken 2 times won't cause a lot concern. Still you can talk to your doctor for your concern about the dose.
