How Can Pimples On The Face On An Infant Be Treated?

I have a granddaughter who is 6 weeks old. her face began breaking out ( almost like acne) about 2 weeks ago. She has been to see her Pediatrician, who recommended Cepaphil soap and lotion and also 1% Hydrocortisol cream. The cream we were using bid. Today, we noticed that her face is breaking out more. The breaking out includes her forehead, checks, nose, and chin. The breaking out resembles little pimples. any suggestions.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Skin problem is very difficult to understand until seen. However, what could understand I wonder if this could be Impetigo?

That is a rapidly spreading infection of the skin. It is not serious and responds very well to topical antibiotics. The suspicion would be higher if there was anyone else who has this type of lesion.

After having said this, I repeat that understanding skin problem are very difficult without seeing the lesion and every lesion have a lot of causes.

So, the best option would be to see a dermatologist or discuss with your general physician if the lesion looks like impetigo, if not, then you need to see dermatologist urgently.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
