Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 72 lb 8 yr old has pinworms. I gave her a dose of Reese s two days ago. It has cleared up significantly, however this evening before bed, there was a still a visable worm so I gave her a second dose. I read several articles about Reese s. They all say it should require only one dose, however there s nothing advising against a second dose. The 1 1/2 tsp doses were given to her 48 hours apart. Did I put her at risk for internal bleeding or liver failure or something? I am second guessing my decision. Also, I ve been making a garlic/Vaseline salve to apply to the area. Does that really work? Thank you.
Mebendazole is the drug of choice and available as, Tablets: 100 mg.
Liquid medicine (suspension): 100 mg in 5 mL. It may be given either as a single dose or twice each day for 3 days.
Your doctor will tell you how often to give it. Once: this can be at any time of day.
Twice a day: this should be once in the morning and once in the evening. Ideally, these times are 10–12 hours apart.
If you give a single dose of mebendazole you may need another single dose two weeks later, to prevent re-infection. Your doctor will give you advice about this.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
