How Can Plugged Ears Be Treated?

Feels like my right ear is plugged. Lower volume on sound, just started a couple of days ago. Almost like it needs to be popped when a high sea level, but I am not able to do so. Not painful just uncomfortable and can only use left ear to hear clearly. Jim Bartlett

Hello,

As per your query you have symptoms of plugged ears which seems to be due to Eustachian tube dysfunction. This can be due to pressure imbalance, wax build up, fungal infection, and fluid accumulation. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to

- Take steam twice a day as it will help in preventing blockage.
- Apply warm dry compresses to the external ear.
- You should keep your ear dry and cover your ear while bathing.
- Do warm saline gargles and put otogenic ear drops.

If symptoms keep on persisting you should consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis. The doctor may examine by otoscope to check the level of infection. The doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin at least for a week along with decongestants.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
