Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My teenage son is in boot camp now. He is in great shape, lifts weights and lots of cardio. He has been battling pneumonia while there. On his last visit to the army doctor a x-ray showed a small hole in his lungs. The doctor said it was minor and to not worry. My question is what could have caused this and how can it be repaired
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Presence of cavity in lungs is concerning for possibility of tuberculosis which should be ruled out. Sputum AFB testing is recommended to confirm/rule out tuberculosis. Please be advised to follow up with his treating physician for necessary evaluation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
