How Can Polymyalgia Rheumatica Be Treated?

I have been diagnosed with PMR. Although the pain cleared up almost immediately I was put on a high dose steroid and I felt great, as I have graduated down, now at 12.5 mg. I am so desperately tired all the time, I can hardly function. Is this part of the disease?

1. As you are a diagnosed case and undertreatment of your Doctor/ Rheumatologist thus remain under his constant observation and supervision, I at most can ket you know about the symptomwise approach

i. because PMR is an autoimmune disorder [AI], and all AI disorder is accompanied by fatigue and steroid has nothing to do with this, it only helps manage the inflammation and symptoms related to it, so PMR will remain for a lifetime, in between do check with blood test for any other concomitant autoimmune disease like ANA, RA factor, ACCP, ESR, complete blood count, HLA B27, thyroid profile.

Ps. check with ultrasonography of adrenal glands

ii. the best thing which one can do is to take it easy and pace herself by taking medication like methylcobalamin with pregabalin [after consulting your treating doctor], and consult a physiotherapist for further guidance. He may start TENS, or ultrasound which is helpful in your case.

PS. While you are on prednisone, your doctor should continue to make sure it’s working effectively and that the side effects are minimal. If you relapse, you may need slightly higher doses and an even slower dose reduction.
