How Can Poor Lung Function And Low Blood Pressure Be Treated?

Hello I have a port a cath procedure and my doc has approved of the use of propofol during the procedure as I m very anxious person and threshold to pain is 0. However my lung function is 19%(fev1) and blood pressure is on the low side as my normal. Is it safe to be under propofol during the port insertion procedure? I m just worried.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, propofol can lower the blood pressure further so first cause of low blood pressure needs to be evaluated and worked up in detail and treated. Low lung function can also contribute to the problem as propofol or any other anesthesia drug can cause respiratory depression and should only be used under supervision of an anesthesiologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
