How Can Post Nasal Drip After A Polyp Surgery Be Treated?
I am 76 years old who had a polyps operation on 21 April. I had almost recovered when, from 22 May, post-nasal dripping started. It is getting worse. It is tiring swallowing the drip every few seconds/minutes. The throat dries up and, in absence of saliva, I cannot swallow the drip. Can you please advise as to whether the post-nasal drip can be stopped or how to cope with it? Otherwise, i am very healthy without any problems. I am in India. THANKS. At night, I take Restyl and have a most peaceful sleep. The post-nasal drip generally starts around 3~4 PM
Post nasal drips are common after adenoid surgery and generally it will settle by itself.
However, you can take antihistamines like Loratadine and mucolytics like N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) for symptomatic relief. Do nasal irrigation using saline drops also. Generally, it will settle by itself in few days.
If symptoms persist, you have to consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated. You might require antibiotics in that case.
