How Can Pregnancy Be Prevented After Unprotected Intercourse?
We had unprotected sex on her 21st day before her period is due ..but then I pulled out before I ejaculated .. What is the possibility that some of my semen stayed in her ... And what is the possibility that she will get pregnant.. Can she take an emergency pill or the 21 days contraceptive pill to prevent pregnancy.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Pull out method has high failure rates compared to other modes of contraception as some quantity of semen containing sperms could have been deposited while intercourse itself. Intake of regular contraceptive pills would not work under such circumstance.
She needs to take emergency contraceptive pill within 72 hours of the act to prevent pregnancy. Earlier it is taken, protection seems to be better. Following this, she would get breakthrough bleeding within 3 weeks, which ensures that she is not pregnant. If she does not get bleeding in 3 weeks, she needs to take urine pregnancy test and seek medical attention promptly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
