How Can Prostate Cancer Be Prevented?

I have been taking Tansulosin HCL 0.4mg for years. I am now 69 yrs of age and it seems this med is not working as well. I have a retired pharmacist friend that does well on Finasteride 5mg and Superbeta Formula natural supplement. Would that be a safe option for me. There is high risk of prostate cancer in my family since I have had a brother and other relatives that had prostate cancer. My doctor is wanting to do the Uro-lift procedure on me but I am not ready and want other med options! This is my wife s email that I use. Thank you for your opinion! Glen

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is important to examine why you are not responding adequately to your usual dose, e.g. because of prostate cancer. Finasteride is probably safe, but see your doctor for a PSA level.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
