How Can Prostatitis Be Treated?

I am taking cipro for prostatitis. The pain is mild, and most of it has gone, but it keeps coming back. My doctor prescribed 500 mg twice a day for a week. Is that long enough? My PDR suggess 4 weeks. Which is right? Shouldn t I take it until the pain is gone completely?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Empirical therapy for prostatis may be continued for 4 weeks. However a regular urology consultation is required to see for complete present.
Also an ultrasound of kidney -urinary bladder may be done to see for any prostatic abscess.
Urinary retention should not be allowed to happen.
