How Can Recurrent Uterine Fibroids Be Treated?

I have had two laparoscopic myomectomies this year, and it seems like I will be having a third in the next month or two. My doctor believes that she has been removing the same fibroid and more of it keeps dropping into the uterine cavity. She inserted an IUD during each procedure (I have been using IUD s for years). My cramping has returned and I have been bleeding for over 30 days, so I know it is time for another treatment. I had my last surgery at the end of August. My question is: is it normal/common to perform multiple surgeries on the same fibroid or should I seek out another doctor? Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,my name is Dorina Gurabardhi.
I understand your concern.
Uterine fibroid can be treated with:
-medical therapy. Medications for uterine fibroids target hormones that regulate your menstrual cycle, treating symptoms such as heavy menstrual bleeding and pelvic pressure.
-Surgery
You should consult with your gynecologist about the best treatment depending on your age, kind of fibroid, position of fibroid etc.
Hope it helps.
Kind regards!
