Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi doctor I have been having recurrent uti s. I have taken so many antibiotics. I was told I have PID and was treated for it. I did not take out the Metronidazole in that course. I am now taking it out. How long after Metronidazole can I take an anti acid like Zantac? And why do I keep having so many recurrent uti s
In regards to your UTI question......you should consult a doctor and have a urine specimen sent to the lab. The lab will then perform a special culture test to determine if any infection is present and from there they can appropriately recommend antibiotic treatment. If no infection is present the doctor should refer you to a urologist to perform some special tests such as a cystoscopy (a procedure whereby they insert a camera through the urethra and into the bladder itself). The urologist will be able to assist you further depending on the findings of the investigations he does.
In regards to using metronidazole and zantac......take the metronidazole 1 hour prior to eating and the zantac 2 hours after eating. This will help to avoid any side effects of the medication interacting with each other.
