How Can Ribs Pain With Bruising Caused By An Injury Be Treated?

I hurt my chest in an accident on the road five days back and although there were no initial signs of discomfort (except for some bruises), I have started experiencing shooting pains in the region of my right ribs. Should I consult a Doctor or get an X Ray immediately? How badly do hairline fractures hurt?
