How Can Ringworm Infection On The Legs And Lower Back Be Treated?
My adult son developed what looked like a ringworm. He was given prescription topical antifungal and antibiotic cream to apply on it. Neither one helped. After 1 1/2 years it ring stated to diminish but the area not the size of a half a dollar is dark and gray. He now has developed some of these dark areas on his legs and lower back. They appear as dark grayish bruises some small but the enlarge slowly with time and never disappear. What could this be?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Your description suggestive of recurrent ring worm infection. You can apply topical anti fungals like Clotrimazole plus steroid combination. Continue the ointments four more weeks even after lesion disappeared. Oral antigunagls like Fluconazole have to be taken once a week for eight weeks. Most cases resolve well with this type of aggressive treatment, if lesion persist consult a dermatologist and get evaluated.
