How Can Ringworm Infestation Be Treated?

I am almost 100% positive I have ringworm. I have one on my neck the size of about a quarter, three on my left arm, one starting on my right (very small), one on my belly, one on each leg. All but the one on my neck are dime or pea size. I started treatment with Lotrimin AF on Tuesday, so I am on day 3 of treatment. Since I have started I ve developed the one on my right arm and one on my leg, both very small. Does this mean the treatment isn t preventing spreading and not working? Or is it too early in treatment to know?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Ringworm is a fungal infection. You are treating it with Lotrimin cream (clotrimazole), but only topically. Terbinafine cream is another good option to treat ringworm. From what you are describing, it seems generalized ringworm, and you need oral treatment to prevent further spread. Terbinafine tablet once daily for at least 2 weeks. The real changes will appear after 2 weeks. So, we can see if the current treatment is working.
