What can I do for the pain I m experiencing with the sciatica nerve. Stretching isn t helping much. The pain in the morning is worse than before I had my hip replaced. Could they be linked? I didn t have nerve issues before the surgery Email: YYYY@YYYY .

Hello,

Sharp shooting pains starting behind the back of thigh and radiating towards the legs is characteristic of sciatica pain. I would advise you to get yourself checked by a physician.

Sciatica can only be confirmed after a physical examination. The physician may also advise an MRI depending upon the result of the physical examination.

If confirmed, he may prescribe you with Gabapentin for pain relief. Getting physical therapy with the help of a chiropractor can also help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nazma Amman
