How Can Severe IBS And Diarrhea Be Treated?

Q. I have a flare up of IBS-D and want to know the typical weaning period off this medication. I did once for 4-5 months with no problem but the last time I wa not weaned off and it gave me a lot of side effects including body shifting and massive hair loss. I see my doctor May 9 so wanted to find out the average time spa for being reduced with this medication YYYY@YYYY

Hi,

Irritable bowel syndrome is a problem which needs diet modification more than drugs. This disease often accompanies person throughout life. Though drugs can manage it but that are not permanent solution as this disorder has strong genetic factors like less production of digestive enzymes or high production of hormones which induce irregular bowel movements.

I suggest you dietary strategy and I hope you will feel better. Identify foods which cause it like onions in some people. Reduce consumption of coffee, coke, and carbonated beverages. Take sleep of 8 hours.

Use curd with milk in solution form but mixed.it has overall healthy effect on gut. Take plenty of liquids particularly in mornings after wake-up.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
