How Can Severe Anxiety Be Treated?

I have had extreme anxiety disorder all my life. Diagnosed 30 years ago. Prescribed Zoloft, Effexor and other tryouts that just made me feel worse. My doctor finally prescribed clorazepate, 2 x a day, 7.5 mils. for the first time in my life I actually felt normal. Now my doctor has retired, and no one will prescribe this medication for me and suggestions have been made for me just to discontinue it. What effects can I expect other that being in hell again? thanks
