Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Our daughter is receiving counseling for anxiety. In addition, she needs to eat every couple of hours even if she s not hungry, she shakes, feels warm yet her hands feel cold, nauseous, light headed. Previous blood work has come up normal, including diabetes.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I would like to inform you that anxiety can be treated with two types of treatment. First is cognitive therapy or counselling which is already going on for your daughter. Second is pharmacotherapy where serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) group of medicines are usually prescribed for anxiety. If counseling is not helping your daughter then I suggest you to consult a psychiatrist and start her on anti-anxiety pills.
All the best.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Prashant Gohil
