How Can Severe Breast Pain Post Radiation And Lumpectomy Be Treated In A Cancer Survivor?

I am a breast cancer survivor. I had a lumpectomy followed by 42 radiation treatments. My last radiation treatment was over a year ago but I am having a stabbing pain in my breast more and more. I have tried to express my concern to my oncologist and breast surgeon but they keep telling me everything feels fine and my last mammogram was fine. I cannot fine a pattern in the pain, it happens at night, during the day, at rest or when being active. Maybe this is normal but it is not normal for me. I am an active nurse and volunteer EMT and I don't have the energy to do anything much more than go to work.

Hi

Severe breast pain post radiation and lumpectomy be treated in a cancer
survivor are due to unavoidable tissue and nerve damage when the cancer and any lymph nodes are removed.

Lymphedema, a swelling of the arm, hand, or chest wall caused by a build-up of lymph fluid in those tissues after breast cancer surgery, also can be painful. But you don't have to suffer. With proper treatment, most people can get relief from most, if not all, of their pain.

Pain medications have become increasingly sophisticated and effective. There are more ways for you to take them, new knowledge of how to use them, and fewer side effects. Today, we also understand more about how complementary and holistic therapies, such as acupuncture, Reiki, and massage which don't use medication may help reduce or end pain.
