How Can Severe Congestion In The Nose Be Treated?

After having a cold for a few days I ended up with a stuffy nose, I used Afrin to clear my nose since I could not sleep wright. Now for the past two days I blow my nose like every half an hour and this yellowish, sticky and somewhat smelly liquid keeps coming out. Is this bad? Am I going to have some relief soon or should I see doctor.

Hi,

As per your query you have symptoms of severe congestion in the nose which is due to upper respiratory tract infection and flu or common cold.

I would suggest you to take few preventive measures such as cough expectorants. You should take anti inflammatory and anti allergic medication. Take decongestants and mucolytic agents. Usually it takes 3 days for flu symptoms to go.

Avoid cold carbonated and cold beverages. Take diet rich in vitamin B12. You should take antibiotics.

You should get blood test and nasal swab test done. If symptoms keeps on persisting visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. Start treatment after complete examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
