Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis at age 13. He is now 20 and a few months ago had his colon removed. He has always had issues with not staying hydrated even though he drinks plenty of water. Since his surgery the dehydration issue has gotten way worse. He is so pale and sick. He has major joint pain and is not sleeping. His body is so messed up. He is in the ER at least 3 times a month. They do tests and everything comes back normal so they conclude that he is dehydrated. They give him fluids and a pain med and send him home. Is there any type of supplement that he can take that will help his body to stay hydrated?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Varinder's Response
Hello,
I do not think that there is a supplement which can hold water as his colon remove he cannot absorb water. Now you can try semisolid food.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
