How Can Severe Diarrhea After An Appendectomy Be Treated?

My son had his appendix removed and has had diarrhoea now for a week and a half a stool specimen has been sent but no results as yet. The diarrhoea has a strong offensive smell. He has lost slot of weight . He is taking fluids and a small amount of food. What do you suggest?

First maintain vitals and hydration of the patient by regularly fluids, give orally if possible and metro can be given as iv
