Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I have suffered from diarrhea for years, tried keeping a fisry of foods that trigger it, saw my doctor monday , put me me on Align, I now have severe diarrhea 5 to 6 times a day. I have had scopes, andall is well.Should ii give it more time or call my doctor?
Five to six episodes of diarrhea a day is a cause for concern as it may lead to dehydration if nothing is done. I will suggest you try the following:- Take oral rehydration salt for fluid and ions replacement- Zinc tablets to help in intestinal repair- You may take an anti-diarrheal like imodium- Eat fruits like bananas that may help improve on your stool quality- Continue with Align as probiotics may also helpThen see the doctor for examination and a stool exam/culture. Apart from infectious causes, your doctor may also investigate for other causes of chronic diarrhea like lactose intolerance, fructose-induced diarrhea, artificial sweeteners, post abdominal surgery diarrhea. Other digestive disorders (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, microscopic colitis and irritable bowel syndrome).Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.Regards, Dr. Mbuomboh Veranso
