How Can Severe Earache Be Treated?

I have right ear pain since yesterday, spreads to right side of the head and is terribly painful. I visited a general practitioner today and he has suggested to take Diclofenac Na tablet (50 mg) and Famotidine tablet (20) three times a day after every meal whenever necessary. I have taken it once and see no decrease in pain or any effect. Please confirm if the diagnosis is right and if I should continue taking these medicines for the next coming days, or should I visit a ENT specialist right away. Thanks, Suma H S

Hi,

Thanks for your question on HCM
I do understand your pain and discomforts

As per your problem is concerned please check it-

1)You have ear pain so it is due to infection only

2)Regarding medication take a preventive antibiotics like [amoxicillin-clavulanate],
For pain you can take [ibuprofen, paracetamol]along with Famotidine tablet (20) and a tropical drop like antipyrine and benzocaine ear drops.

3)You can do few things at home which may help along with medication-

Heat up one cup of salt on a pan over low heat for a few minutes. You can also heat it in a microwave or double-boiler. Place the hot salt on a cloth and seal the open end with rubber band. When it is bearably hot, lay down and put the cloth on the affected ear for 10 minutes. Repeat this remedy daily as many times as needed.

4)Mix three drops of tea tree oil, two tablespoons of olive oil, a teaspoon of colloidal silver and a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Warm the mixture slightly. Lay on your side with your head on a towel. Using a dropper, fill your ear with the mixture and let it sit for five minutes. Then turn and lay on your other side so that the mixture drains out of your ear completely. Follow this remedy three times a day for two days only.

5)Do a physical examination by your[ENT] doctor for not to miss any signs.

Hope that helps
