How Can Severe Gout Pain Be Treated After Taking A Panadol Shot?

My husband has just been diagnosed with gout. he was given a shot of pfenodol (?) an hour ago. We are home again but he is hurting worse than he was when I took him to the ER. I called back to the ER but they just said to use ice on it. He is in great pain and says it spasms at times. What should I do?
