Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had the gastric sleeve done 1 year ago. Everything has been great until 4 days ago. Now I am experiencing severe heartburn. I take 40 MG of omneprazole bid and it doesn t seem to be helping. I am going to call my surgeon tomorrow, but is there anything I can do for this Now? It s so bad that I cannot sleep. I moved to a sitting position, but that doesn t seem to be helping.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you are having symptoms of heartburn which could be due to eating a lot of dairy products, irritable bowel syndrome, and due to excessive production of bile.
Need not to worry. Avoid laying on bed after immediately having food. For now drink lot of water, do light exercises and avoid fatty and heavy meals. Drink plenty of water and fluids and take diet rich in roughage and fibers. Avoid spicy and sharp food substances. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order colonoscopy or other tests to look for blockages in your colon , barium studies and blood test for hormonal changes. Doctor may prescribe fiber supplement, osmotic laxatives , stool softeners and medicine to reduce acidity.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
