How Can Severe Leg Cramps, Extending From Hips To Toes, Be Treated?

I just got over the flu. I m very suseptable to illness due to having no spleen. For the last two days I have experienced debilitating, excruciating leg cramps, extending from toes to hips. Now the muscles in my forearms are seizing up as well. I called my doctor today, even went in to speak with them to no avail. What should I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the query. I understand your concern.
Severe muscle cramps are symptoms of flue. The cramps after flu is controlled might be -
- Weakness following high grade fever.
- Electrolyte imbalance if you also had accompanying vomiting or loose motions.
* Home management would be- To take rest nutritious / eat light nourishing diet / light massage with muscle relaxants / over the counter pill ( anti inflammatory & pain management )
- Drinking lot of boiled water with sugar & pinch of salt or with ORT powder. Calcium & vitamin B supplements would help.
With this the symptoms go within 3-8 days.
* If there is no improvement or the problem increases you should consult doctor . ( may need steroids / iv drip for electrolytes ).
Thanks.
