How Can Severe Migraines Be Treated?

I have been having migraines almost daily for approximately 8-10 months and the last month or so have also noticed that my balance isn t very good and I have tripped twice lately over nothing. I used to be a ballet dancer so until lately I was graceful. I m 59 but don t really thing that that is old enough to loose my balance over nothing. Recently had and MRI for a pituitary tumor and it came back negative.(had one previously). Don t know where to go from here or if I should just drop or that it s age.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, long term prophylaxis with Propanol or Triptan, may be needed. However with normal MRI other organic causes seem less likely but if pain persists alongside balance issues carotid artery Doppler and MRA with MRV may also be needed.

A detailed neurological examination by a neurologist is a must.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
