How Can Severe Numbness And Burning Sensation In The Hands Be Treated?

Hi, wondering if the best type of doctor to see for my symptoms is a neurologist. I m a 56 year old female. I ve had carpal tunnel syndrome in the past. Wearing wristguard when I sleep used to help, but they don t any longer; and my symptoms have changed/worsened, so I think I m experiencing something more than CTS. I now wake every night or early morning with both hands and arms numb and with a terrible burning sensation that goes up past my elbows. The only way to ease the pain is to lay on my back with my arms resting lightly across my chest. But the numbness and pain will come right back if I change positions or move my arms. Thank you for your thoughts, comments, or suggestions....

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear , welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your question and here is my advice.

I think you should visit a neurologist and also do diabetes tests such fasting glucose levels, postprandial levels and hbA1c.
Looks like you have diabetes neuropathy too.
Best regards.
