How Can Severe Osteoarthritis In The Knees And Hands Be Treated?
I have severe osteoarthritis in knees and hands. the knee pain is complicated by a lower femur fracture and knee damage. the rod they had to put in blocks the outside knee where they would inject anything to help/ Is there anything I can put on it topically that might help? Very limited on what I can take orally as I have also had a kidney transplant due to a DNA clotting problem that activated. Is DMSO any good? Corinne the rod the put in my leg stops them from being able to inject cordizone
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I understand you are looking for a topical ointment to relieve the pain associated with osteoarthritis.
My advice is to stay away from DMSO. There are topical lotions that contain anti-inflammatory medications that are very good. One ointment has the drug Diclofenac sodium in it- regular prescription ointment. The other lotion I am thinking of has a unique carrier protein that takes the medication Diclofenac sodium deep into the tissues. I believe the only name it is produced under is Pennsaid lotion. I advise you to obtain the Pennsaid and rub it on your sore areas daily to bypass taking the medication orally.
I hope this treatment aides in your pain control.
