How Can Severe Pain In The Ankle Be Treated?

My name is Brenda and I broke my leg at the ankle and had surgery a week ago. My question is why does it feel like my leg is on fire between the ankle and knee under the cast. I sit up it seems to go away but when I lay down to try and sleep it lights up again. Pain meds are not helping that. Thanks

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It sounds like you are having some nerve pain. It could be from the surgery but it could also be from a nerve impingement from the cast.

You need to see your orthopedist and have them check the cast.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Kathy Robinson
