How Can Severe Pain In The Fingers After A Surgery Be Treated?

I recently had surgery on a finger on my left hand to remove a screw that was put in two years to help with arthritis in the finger. I am in terrible pain. My doctor recommended Motrin which doesn t help at all. I ve tried to put an ice patch on it and this doesn t help also. They found out also that I had a staph infection in that finger and I am taking prescribed medicine to get rid of that.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Since the medication you have been prescribed so far has not helped, you may need to be given stronger medicines to help with pain relief.Once the infection is treated, this may help to reduce some of the pain that you are experiencing. If there is no relief with the stronger medicines your doctor prescribes, you may want to consider seeing an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in the hand.

Hope I have answered your query.
