How Can Severe Pain In The Knees Be Treated?

I had a synvisc one shot to my left knee on August 4th. I have had no relief and have pain that ranges from from 5-10 continually. When I went back to see the orthopedic surgeon, he suggested a complete knee replacement. His nurse informed me that I have to wait 3 months before it can be done. I am in excruciating pain. My primary care physician prescribed vicodin since I am allergic to tramadol and cannot take motrin because of GERD. I cannot see taking a narcotic for 3 months while I await surgery. What do you suggest?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* As per my case evaluation, the intense pain requires definite care for knee replacement, if there is long waiting at particular center, you can opt for another center.
* Pain relief can only be obtained via change of analgesic of physician choice, assisted physio or laser shots till the surgery time. Do continue to use our medical services.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
