How Can Severe Pain In The Knees Be Treated?

I suffer from chronic knee pain and have for about 10 years. I have been told that I have a bakers cyst now, behind my left/injured knee. I am certain that I have re-injured my knee and the pain medication doesn t touch the pain. I am experiencing a burning , tearing feeling along with the cyst in the back. I am self employed and do not have insurance currently. At what point would you suggest that I go to the emergency room and is there anything that can be done other than surgery right now. My pain is severe, my knee isn t capable of finding a comfortable position??? Please help

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

This is the time you're should go to emergency room and get date for surgery.
Backers cyst cause obstruction in knee joint movements.
There is no medicines available to reduce size of this cyst.
Surgical removal is the only treatment available.
So don't take unnecessary painkillers, try to contact orthopedic surgeon as soon as possible and get it operated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
