How Can Severe Pain In The Left Achilles Tendon Be Treated?

I am having Severe pain in my left foot, Achilles Tendon area. I have no injury or swelling. It hurts to walk. The action of picking my foot up and completing my step by putting my foot down is so PAINFUL !!! This has occurred on and off for about 6 months.
