How Can Severe Pain In The Legs Be Treated?

i have been under Dr. Misra s care and been receiving medication for 8 to 9 years. I have been cut off completely. I ve been trying other means to relieve pain (I.e. bed rest, pillow under my legs, Motrin, slight stretches, RICE.)I m having no relief. Besides pain management what else can I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for your question on HCM & I do understand your concern

“As” per your clinical history is concerned you have leg pain but you have not mentioned what was your disease and what medications you were taking since 8-9 years.so remove leg pain in my opinion first rule out PAD by doing a physical examination by a local doctor and do one ultrasound to study blood flow to pain areas of your legs. Do check your fasting blood sugar and lipid profile. If confirmed you need to take one medication like [statin]and if you have high blood pressure and sugar to take medication as usual. To prevent blood clot you need regular [aspirin and clopidogrel]. Regarding leg pain you can be given [cilostazol]which increase blood flow. All medications are prescription medication drugs so you need a doctor's prescription only.

Further management depends upon your response to conservative treatment only.

Besides it you may need some preventive steps like this :-

1)Try to quit smoking if you have this habit
2)If you have high blood sugar do check every 2 months and control it.
3)Do exercise regularly and try to maintain a good weight
4)Eat foods that are low in saturated fat

Hope that helps
