Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Have had perineal(?) nerve decompression surgery on my leg maybe 5 yrs. ago. Also 2 back surgeries...1981 and 1991 and have severe arthritis in spine but am very healthy...walk several miles every day. Every day! Leg started bothering me maybe 1 1/2 yrs. ago with some pain but nothing that my daily Aleve can t handle. The last few weeks, the pain is getting worse though i have done nothing differently that would cause that. In the last week, the pain is getting worse. Went grocery shopping early this morning, did fine, ran some errands, did fine...came home and can hardly walk on my leg. Pain off the chart. Tried all of my exercises to relieve pain if my back bothers me but nothing is helping. The pain in my leg is right below my knee cap and by my ankle and just below where the nerve decompression surgery was done. Have an appt. in 1 1/2 wks. with my dr. but am getting desperate! I did walk 13 min. this afternoon which is not in the category of...miles! Walking and sitting are fine. Just standing and walking...intense pain.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
* As per my clinical experience, the current presentation suggests recompression of the peroneal nerve of the leg.
* In our clinic, I recommend nerve conduction study test with MRI of the region to find out the underlying cause and treat accordingly. Wish this information will help you. Do feel free to ask further doubts.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
