How Can Severe Pain In The Neck Be Treated?

Hi, I have been using Gabapentin since my back surgery in September for the nerve pain in my legs. It has worked well but now I have had neck surgery 3 weeks ago and a week after the surgery I told the Physicians asst. that I have terrible nerve pain in my neck going to my right shoulder. All he said was to up the dosage to 900 mg. in the morning , 600 mg. at lunch and 900 mg. at night time. All these mg. have done nothing for me. I don t want to take any more of this! What other medication can I take to help with the nerve pain because it burns badly and tenses up my muscles. Please help!!! DIDN T KNOW I HAD TO PAY! I M NOT WORKING! THANKS A LOT!!!!

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your pain maybe due to compression of any nerve.you would have told us about kind of neck surgery you underwent it would have been more useful to us. To look for the cause of compression you need to undergo an urgent MRI cervical spine. meanwhile you can take tablet Tramadol SOS at the time of severe pain. Hope my answer helps you and feel free to contact us again.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
