How Can Severe Pancreatitis Be Treated?

Hello...I took Vicodin for only 4 days after being sent home from the hospital after a pancreatitis attack (have had many). I was taking them every six hours because of the pain returning if I didn t overlap. Since then (over a week ago), I have had constipation, although I have been able to go infrequently, and terrible abdominal pain. I ve tried a few different laxatives, but none have worked great. I just took a Senokot tab and am waiting for relief. Is there anything else I should do? Is this normal after taking it for such a short time?

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can

Senokot is a good option and you should wait to see if this will wor. You may at times need to try a laxative such as Fleet Phospho-Soda, Milk of Magnesia, or glycerin suppositories. If there wont be improvement on these measures, you should consider doing diagnostic tests such as colonoscopy, anal sphincter manometry and food allergy testing
Treatment for it depends on how bad your symptoms are. If the pain is mild, you are able to drink liquids, and you have no signs of complications, treatment may include:Medicines such as antibiotics and pain relievers.
Changes in diet, starting with a clear-liquid or bland diet that is low in fiber until the pain goes away, then increasing the amount of fiber. To establish the severity of diagnosis, you should do CT scan or colonoscopy.
If the pain is severe, you are not able to drink liquids, or you have complications of pancreatitis., a hospital stay is needed.
.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
