Hi..
Thanks for the query..
Trigeminal Neuralgia can cause episodes of severe
electric shock like pain on the affected side of face and
Gabapentin is one of the commonly prescribed neurotic painkiller for this problem..
But in case if it is causing you side effects then you can
consult a Neurologist and get yourself evaluated..
You can be firs of all thoroughly examined along with
MRI scan to confirm the diagnosis..
If Trigeminal Neuralgia is confirmed as the diagnosis then other commonly advised medications for trigeminal neuralgia like Carbamazipine [Tergetrol], Oxycarbazipine [Trileptal], Beclofen etc can be advised as they are also very helpful in the treatment of Trigeminal Neuralgia.
If the side effects are mild and tolerable then they also gets less noticeable gradually as your body adapts with the medicine..
In case if the medications are not sufficient in relieving your agony then surgical intervention can help in relieving the symptoms..
Hope you get better soon..
Regards..
