Hi. I have a thing ive been concerned about. When i was around 13 i was on a trampoline with neighborhood friends and i had someone jump and hand on me. I remember crying in pain n feeling the wind got knocked out of me. Since then here and there ill get popping of my right rib when i laugh alot or cough or breathe deeply but only sometimes. Ill sometimes get a dull ache on my rib where i get frustrated and want to cry. Its not a sharp pain unless its already hurting and i turn fast or something but the sharp pain always turns into an ache after. My right ribs are weirdly formed too, one rib seems to pop out near the bottom and where that is, it indents in the curve part of it on the bottom kinda. Should i be concerned? Im twenty and still get this pain.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You are had blunt chest trauma earlier. This might have caused rib fractures. Since you have not taken any treatment for this, it might have healed by itself. And in this process of self healing there is high possibility of malunioin. Now malunited ends of rib can slip over with rib cage movements like laughing, coughing, sneezing etc. Honestly speaking, now there is no treatment for this malunioin. But better to get done chest x ray to confirm this and also ti rule out other causes.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
