How Can Shingles Be Treated?

My husband broke out last Saturday, July 15 with shingles. His pain is so extreme today. He tried the anti-viral medication, but has not been able to tolerate it. What can we do., as his pain is extreme right now. The dr. gave him Hydrocordone for pain, and that also upset him, but is has taken l/2 tablet a few minutes ago, and one around noon, and 5 a.m., his pain has reached the pain he can hardly stand it. What can I do. I have put the cream Zostrix on him several times, but his pain is about a 9 on scale of l-l0 at this time. It will go to a 2-3 or 4, then shoots back up.

Hi

Please start him on some oral medication also for the pain like Naproxen and if pain is severe we can inject again .
Do not stop the antivirals they help in long term pain.

Hope I have answered your query.
