How Can Shingles Be Treated?

I am about 8 days into a shingles breakout. I’ve been prescribed Valtrex and using it for 4 days Yesterday I noticed a terrible smell, and today it’s worse. Is this normal? Everyone I’ve talked to that’s had the virus has not experienced this odor. I can take a shower but the odor is still there

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I understand your problem. For shingle we give Valacyclovir/Acyclovir tablet. As it is a viral infection (Herpes Zoster), it decreases immunity so secondary bacterial infection can occur. In your case there may be secondary bacterial infection.

Please consult a physician and take antibiotics.

Hope this will help you.

Thank you.
