How Can Side Effects Of Benicar Be Managed?

I have been on Benicar/Valsartin/Hctz in various combinations for several years and have shown almost every side effect mentioned under the listings for Benicar and Valsartin. Anemia, puritis and shin rashes,, pneumonia, dry cough, myalgia and cramping in lower extremities, and lately headaches most of the night and mornings,,AND TERRIBLE FATIGUE, wanting to sleep 12 and more hours a day to name a few. I have also seen physician specialists for most of these problems BUT no one has taken me off the drug. WHY??? I am turning to holisitic and herbal cures now. Any reason I should not???

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The golden rule is that any medicine which is to be taken for lifelong, like yours, if develops side effects and bother the patient, then we must stop that. There is no reason, why the medication is not been changed if it troubles you. I wonder why your doctor doesn't agree with this. I suppose you might not have conveyed the message to them. So, talk to them and I am sure they will agree to change it. We do it routinely in our practice.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
