General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Most coughs/colds are viral and do not respond to antibiotics.

You can consider the use of a Mucolytic, this is medication to help bring out the mucus so that it can be expelled, for example, Guaifenesin drug.

Fluids would also decrease thickness of the secretions, so they should be used as well. A decongestant such as Sudafed would help with the nasal symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
